The Emissary of Husayn
This shrine honours Muslim ibn Aqil, cousin of Imam Husayn, who was sent ahead to Kufa to gather support before the journey that would end at Karbala. Betrayed by the city, he was martyred here in 680 CE; his tomb adjoins the historic Great Mosque of Kufa.

Betrayal on the Palace Roof
This shrine beside the Great Mosque of Kufa holds Muslim ibn Aqil, the cousin and envoy Husayn sent ahead to gauge Kufa's loyalty. Thousands pledged to him before the city turned, and he was beheaded on the roof of the governor's palace, his body cast down to the ground below.
