Jabal Thawr (Mount Thawr)

South of Makkah
About

Jabal Thawr is a roughly 750 m mountain south of central Makkah, famous for the Cave of Thawr (Ghar Thawr) near its summit. Islamic tradition holds that the Prophet Muhammad and his companion Abu Bakr sheltered in this cave for three days and nights during the Hijrah, their migration to Medina. Reaching the cave requires a strenuous climb of roughly 1,400 steps and rocky trail.
