
El Basha mosque
An 18th-century Ottoman mosque in the Bab al-Saray quarter, built by the al-Jalili dynasty and once known as al-Khabazin, the Bakers' Mosque. Several of the dynasty that governed Ottoman Mosul are buried within. Damaged under ISIS, it was rebuilt in its original form by local artists and sculptors.

The Bakers' Mosque
Before it took the name of the Pasha who completed it, this mosque was known as al-Khabazin — the Bakers' Mosque — for the trade quarter it served. The old name still preserves the memory of the working district around it.

Resting Place of the Jalili Pashas
El Basha is one of the oldest mosques built by the al-Jalili dynasty that governed Ottoman Mosul, and several members of the family are buried within it, tying the building to the rulers of the 18th-century city.
