Masjid al-Qiblatain (Mosque of the Two Qiblas)

Masjid al-Qiblatain marks the site where, in 2 AH (623-624 CE), Prophet Muhammad received the revelation to change the direction of prayer (qibla) from Jerusalem to the Kaaba in Makkah during a congregational prayer. It once held two mihrabs facing both directions; the 1987 reconstruction retained the Makkah-facing niche and left a marker where the Jerusalem-facing one stood.
