Badr, ~130-150 km southwest of Madinah
About

Badr is a town in Al Madinah Province roughly 130-150 km southwest of Madinah, site of the Battle of Badr (17 Ramadan 2 AH / March 624 CE), the first major military victory of the early Muslim community, in which a force of about 313 Muslims defeated a much larger Meccan Quraysh army of roughly 1,000. The battlefield today spans an open desert valley of about 100,000 square metres and includes several distinct components: Masjid al-Areesh at the northern edge (marking the Prophet's command shelter), the arrival dune of Katheeb al-Hannan to the northwest, Jabal al-Malaika (the Mountain of the Angels) on the western side, the Graveyard of the Martyrs of Badr about 550 metres west, and the dry well (Qalib) where the slain Quraysh chiefs were buried. Some tour operators refer to an associated 'museum', but a distinct, independently confirmed public museum building with regular opening hours could not be verified from available sources.
