About

The miqat mosque southwest of Madinah where pilgrims from the direction of the city enter ihram before Hajj or Umrah. Also known as Abyar Ali and Masjid ash-Shajarah (Mosque of the Tree), it marks the point the Prophet Muhammad designated as the miqat after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. First built under Umar II ibn Abdulaziz (early 8th century), reconstructed in the 16th century, and greatly expanded under King Fahd.
