The Maktabah Makkah al-Mukarramah (Makkah Al Mukarramah Library), known as Bayt al-Mawlid, stands on the traditionally identified birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad in the Suq al-Layl area just east of the Grand Mosque. Designated as a library in 1938 and given a dedicated building in 1953 over the historic site, it houses books, hadith and jurisprudence collections, and rare manuscripts, and is a well-known heritage landmark for pilgrims.
