About

Al Yaqzha Al Islamiyya Mosque (the Islamic Awakening Mosque) is one of the mosques of the city of Mosul in Iraq, located in the New Mosul area, distinguished by its radiant architecture and its distinctive position at the heart of the city's academic life.

When Al Yaqzha Mosque is mentioned, Quranic recitation and the sciences of tajweed are inevitably mentioned alongside it, for Sheikh Yunus Ibrahim established within it a school of Quranic recitations that became a scholarly beacon, producing generations of distinguished reciters who combined understanding, mastery, and sincerity.

Sheikh Yunus Ibrahim served as preacher of this mosque for twenty years, combining his work in the educational sector with devoting his entire life to the Quran. His student Sheikh Ahmad Ismail Al Barzanji then succeeded him for more than ten years. Distinguished scholars have taken turns at its pulpit, among them Sheikh Bashir Al Saqqal, Sheikh Umar Al Nu'ma, Sheikh Badr Al Din Al Hilali, Sheikh Sayyid Dahham, Sheikh Akram Abd Al Wahhab, and others.

The mosque was subjected to bombardment and destroyed, but sincere men fulfilled what they had pledged to God, rebuilding it through the hands of faithful youth who restored its beautiful image and added to its splendor and beauty. At their forefront were Sheikh Ahmad Ismail Al Barzanji, Sayyid Marwan Fadhil, Sayyid Ahmad Al Khazraji, Sayyid Muthanna Nayif, and others, so that the mosque remains a witness to the people of Mosul's adherence to their scholarly and religious heritage no matter what trials cross their path.
